Men for Equality has officially launched a new Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) supported project aimed at advancing gender equality and promoting positive masculinity in the Upper River Region (URR) and Lower River Region (LRR). This initiative seeks to engage communities, empower boys, and foster environments where respect, empathy, and equality thrive.
Project Components
The initiative combines community engagement, youth empowerment, and media outreach to create lasting impact:
1. Community Engagement Sessions
Interactive dialogues provide safe spaces for community members to reflect on:
- Harmful social norms
- Gender roles and expectations
- Violence prevention strategies
These sessions aim to promote understanding, empathy, and collective action against practices that undermine equality.
2. Training & Establishment of Boys’ Circles
The project establishes boys’ circles, safe spaces where boys can:
- Explore positive expressions of masculinity
- Develop leadership skills
- Learn empathy, respect, and accountability
By equipping boys with these tools, the initiative encourages young men to become active advocates for safer, more equitable communities.
3. Regional Radio Programs
Community voices are amplified through radio broadcasts, which:
- Raise awareness on gender equality and positive masculinity
- Encourage dialogue on challenging harmful norms
- Inspire communities to embrace collective responsibility for social change
Engaging Men and Boys for Lasting Change
This CFLI-supported initiative highlights the critical role of men and boys in building safer, more inclusive communities. By fostering dialogue, leadership, and advocacy at both the individual and community levels, Men for Equality is laying the foundation for a future where gender equality is not only taught—but lived.
