New Chapter of Transformation: Men for Equality and WILL Launch Gender Transformative Approach Project with UNICEF.

Men for Equality and Women in Liberation and Leadership (WILL), with support from UNICEF, have launched a major new initiative dedicated to reshaping gender attitudes across The Gambia. The initiative titled: Strengthening Gender Transformative Approaches (GTA) to Ending FGM and Eradicating Harmful Socio-Cultural Norms in The Gambia aims to address the structural and socio-cultural root causes of gender inequality in Gambian society through a holistic and inclusive lens. It is guided by the Gender Equality Continuum and aligns with UNICEF’s Gender Action Plan 2022–2025, which promotes the integration of gender-transformative strategies across programming, institutional policies, partnerships, and capacity development.
A Bold Gender Transformative Vision
The project goes beyond awareness-raising — it confronts the root causes of inequality by challenging norms around power, masculinity, femininity, and decision-making.
Activities include:
- Development and pre-testing of GTA and SBC materials (GTA intervention manual, FGM factbook, HCD intervention manual)
- Hosting of GTA materials and tools for knowledge dissemination
- Master trainer training on GTA and HCD
- Periodic coordination meetings for knowledge management with FGM stakeholders and partners
- Step down training on GTA and HCD for Government Officials and CSO partners
- Strengthened male engagement strategies
UNICEF’s support ensures vulnerable groups gain access to safe, inclusive spaces that prioritize their rights and wellbeing.
This collaboration signals a united commitment to building a Gambia where every child grows up free from discrimination, violence, and harmful practices.
