Accelerating Change: Men for Equality Partners with Wallace Global Fund to Promote Positive Masculinity and End FGM in URR

Men for Equality has launched a transformative partnership with the Wallace Global Fund to advance positive masculinity and accelerate the abandonment of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) across the Upper River Region (URR). This collaboration underscores a shared commitment to challenging harmful norms and fostering communities grounded in dignity, empathy, and equality.

Project Activities

The partnership will implement a multi-pronged approach, combining community engagement, youth empowerment, and media outreach:

  • Community Engagements
Interactive sessions will address masculinity, gender equality, and violence prevention, creating safe spaces for reflection and dialogue within communities.
  • Training in Tertiary Institutions
Workshops and capacity-building activities will target university and college students, shaping future leaders who can champion positive masculinity and gender justice.
  • Radio Programmes
Community voices will be amplified through radio, raising awareness, addressing misconceptions, and inspiring public conversations about ending harmful practices.

Strengthening a National Movement

This partnership strengthens Men for Equality’s ongoing efforts to replace harmful social norms with values of respect, empathy, and shared responsibility. By engaging men and boys as advocates for change, the initiative is helping to build a safer, more equitable Gambia where every child and woman can thrive free from violence and discrimination.
