Inspiring Young Leaders: Men for Equality Equips Students to Challenge Harmful Practices

Men for Equality has completed a dynamic and high-impact training program with junior and senior secondary schools, empowering students with the knowledge, confidence, and leadership skills to challenge harmful social norms and promote gender equality in their communities.
Throughout the sessions, energetic young participants explored topics such as gender norms, positive masculinity, leadership and role modeling, and the urgent need to end Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
Transforming Mindsets Through the Gender Transformative Approach (GTA)
Using our Gender Transformative Approach, students examined how everyday attitudes shape gender relations and influence power dynamics. They learned to:
- Question and unlearn harmful stereotypes
- Promote fairness, respect, and empathy
- Challenge gender discrimination in their schools and communities
- Stand up for the wellbeing and rights of girls and boys
Redefining Masculinity Through Engagement
One of the most powerful moments of the training was the positive masculinity module, where boys were encouraged to rethink harmful definitions of “strength.” Instead of dominance, students embraced values such as empathy, responsibility, and non-violence.
School Clubs Leading a Movement
Inspired by the training, students committed to strengthening and establishing school clubs dedicated to awareness, advocacy, and peer education. Men for Equality will continue to support these clubs through mentoring and follow-up engagements.
Why This Work Matters
Young people are the heartbeat of social change. By equipping them with transformative tools, we are nurturing a generation ready to lead the fight against harmful practices and champion equality for all.
